I don’t really drink coffee much these days, but when I did drink coffee I was also bad at it. Anyways, here are my thoughts.
Brew Methods
There’s a few different brewing methods. My favorite is using the Aeropress. I guess I’ll list the order going from least favorite to favorite.
-
French press
This is pretty gritty to me, the metal strainer doesn’t really filter much out. Possibly I’m at fault for using a blending grinder instead of a burr grinder, but whatever. Also, the French press is a pain in the ass to clean.
-
Hario V60
Or just drip coffee in general. The Hario V60 is pretty fun to play with. I think it’s pretty satisfying.
-
Aeropress
I’m biased because the inventor is from the Bay Area, but I also think it’s an amazingly designed product. It’s like the French press, if you didn’t have its weaknesses. The paper filter gets rid of any grit, the puck of grounds is easy to clean up, and it’s reasonably fast for brewing. I guess the one weakness is that it’s maybe not all that strong, and you definitely need to use a finer grind.
I’m also gonna say that I think that the Aeropress Go’s cup is one of the best designed cups ever. You should get the Aeropress Go just for the cup.
Other cool methods:
-
Vacuum
I’ve seen this in Japan and at Japanese places in the US a few times.
