Indian Rock

Indian Rock Park is a park in Berkeley (map) that’s got climbable rocks and a great view.

The sign at Indian Rock Park. Behind the sign is a guy that’s doing some rock climbing. You can’t see in the photo but he’s got a crash pad underneath him.

You’ll see a lot rock climbers/boulderers with crash pads here. Crash pads, for those that don’t know, are basically giant foam mats you can place beneath your climbing area to soften a fall.

You don’t need to climb to get to the top of the rock, though. There’s carved out stairs that lead to the top as well.

The top of Indian Rock. You can see some stairs carved into the rock.
Indian Rock has a pretty nice view of the Bay and San Francisco.

Me, and a bunch of folks whose faces I’ve censored to save them from the dystopia that is ubiquitous facial recognition. I will say that it’s a special occasion for the guy in the center. If you’re in this photo, and you don’t want to be censored, let me know; because right now it just looks like I have an ego problem (which—granted—I probably do, but that’s not why I censored these faces).

Oh, and there’s a pretty good view from the top. You can see SF in the back right and Oakland in the back left.
