You know, I’m not sure how this is all that different from my hobbies list. Maybe the difference is that I don’t actually do anything with these interests besides read or watch things.
I should note also that I’m also excluding most computer/technical interests here, and instead focusing more on “IRL” interests.

Architecture, brutalism, concrete, building design
-
I have a bit of an interest in passive house design, using the thermal mass of concrete and water to regulate temperature, and geothermal heat pumps.
- I think I was interested in this around 2020 because my mom’s place did not have AC, so I had to figure out how to use ventilation and water to store and transfer heat.
- I also just really like the vertical architecture of cities like Shanghai.

Infrastructure
- I took a drawing class at a community college one summer during my undergrad. Someone recommended the book “Infrastructure: A Field Guide to the Industrial Landscape” and I thought it was one of the coolest books I’d ever seen.
- I don’t play many games, but I have played Factorio, which has given me a greater appreciation for infrastructure.

Culture
- Cyberculture, subcultures, cybersubcultures?
-
Music
- Almost everyone enjoys music, and I’m no different. I particularly like electronic music (e.g. Aphex Twin), experimental minimal music (e.g. Steve Reich), ambient music (e.g. Steve Roach), fingerstyle guitar, and plunderphonics (e.g. vaporwave, The Avalanches, Girl Talk).
- I’ll say that music is more of an “interest” than a “hobby” because I can’t really make music, outside of beatboxing and hand-whistling.
