These are mostly notes for myself when buying lightbulbs in the future.
Enclosed ceiling lights (sometimes called “boob lights” due to their shape) require special bulbs because they trap heat. You also need to be aware of their size. I recently replaced one of our bulbs with an A19 sized bulb. The UPC is 017801154467, Feit Electric Company, marked as suitable for enclosed lamps, bought February 2024 at Cole Hardware in SF for $14.99 for a 2 pack. I think A19 refers to the size, whereas the common scre base size is E26 (not always written on the packaging).
Disposal
SFEnvironment.org has a guide (PDF) on which lightbulbs can be disposed of and which need recycling.
- Needs recycling
- Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) and Fluorescent Tubes
- High Intensity Discharge
- Neon Signs (I wish I had these)
- LEDs
- Can be disposed of in landfill
- Incandescent
- Halogen
SFRecycles.org has a page on where to recycle lightbulbs. Basic summary is that you can recycle them at a local Ace Hardware.
