I really don’t know anything about wine, so this is more of a placeholder page. I know a little bit about rice wine (sake). But for, you know, normal wine I just nod my head and say “hmm… tannins…”. And then I try not to ask what kind of box the wine comes in.
Types of Wine
(Not at all a good list)Red Wines
-
Cabernet Sauvignon
I think this is the kind of red wine I like most, currently. Not sure why.
- Merlot
- Zinfandel
White Wines
- Pinot Grigio
- Chardonnay
Others
-
Ice wines
My partner and I had a kind of dessert-y ice wine from Rooftop Reds in Brooklyn, which was the first time I had ice wine.
-
Rosé
Apparently this is technically a white wine with skins maybe added? Need to double check this.
Places to Get Wine
Or rather, places I’ve been with wine.
-
If you’re in California, you might check out Napa Valley, which has a ton of wineries.
- Did a wine tasting at Castello di Amorosa in 2022.
- V. Sattui has a cellar with a bunch of wine barrels.
- Back in 2016 or maybe 2017 my partner and I went to Rooftop Reds in Brooklyn, which was nice because of the rooftop area. Also tried a dessert ice wine there which was good.

Went to a place called Sunstone Winery (map) not too far from Santa Barbara
Went in 2022. The wine tasting area was cool, like it was basically dug into the side of a hill. I didn’t particularly like the wine tasting, though, maybe just because I felt like their wines were all similar to each other. The wines had descriptions like “fruit forward on the nose, black cherry on the palette”, and, like, I don’t know, they all just seemed pretty similar. (And of course, again, I don’t know anything about wine so I’m probably not their target audience.)
- Eataly in Santa Clara (and I’m sure their other locations) has a sizable wine selection.
-
Went to a place called Enso Winery in Portland
Pretty nice, from what I remember. I remember liking their decor.
- Theoretically, Festa Wine & Cocktail Bar has wine, but I’ve only ever gone there for karaoke.
